WNU Wear: How to French tuck your shirt

The half tuck - also known as the French tuck - is where one front panel of a shirt is tucked in, whilst the rest remains loosely hanging out. It is the easiest styling trick to do, ensuring you achieve that effortlessly undone aesthetic whilst still looking elegant.
Drawing from the likes of Clemence Posey, Kate Moss and John Wayne (come on, we're never not borrowing from the boys), the below steps will show you how to achieve the perfect french tuck.

Step One: Prep the Last Button

1. Begin with putting on your favourite shirt, ironed for a more crisp look, and undo the last button. (Seen here is our Boyfriend Poplin White in size XS, worn on a UK size 8-10)

Step Two: Tuck the Panel

2. Take the right front panel of the shirt (the side with the buttons on, which sits underneath the other front panel) and tuck this into the front of your trousers, ensuring the shirt lays flat against your skin.

Step Three: The Pull

3. This side of your shirt will now be taught. To achieve the relaxed look, pinch the fabric at the front of your shirt with your fingers and slightly pull it out and down before releasing. Play with this until you reached your desired look, remembering to leave the remainder of the shirt untucked and loose.

Step Four: Make it Casual

4. You can leave the style as is, for a more refined look, but if you would like to make it a bit more casual, you can roll up the sleeves of your shirt. To do this, unbutton the cuff and peel back the fabric to fold back on itself. Proceed to fold back the fabric evenly around your lower arm until it sits half way between your wrist and elbow - we usually opt for 3 thick rolls.

Step Five: The Cuff

5. Repeat on the other sleeve.

Step Six: Complete

6. Et voilà. You now know how to style the french tuck. This look is a personal favourite for office style in WNU HQ, whether it be half tucked into leggings or jeans, or more recently, into our towelling shorts when that heatwave hits.
